Overview and Objective

In alignment with the strategic growth and objectives set forth by executive leadership, this project was conceived to design and develop a custom, dynamic, personalized, and localized intranet. Our mission was to support the enterprise’s expansion and strategic directives through innovative digital solutions.

The primary aim was to bolster the corporate intranet’s user experience and interface, ensuring it not only met but exceeded the evolving needs of our employees. This involved leading the custom design and development of the UX/UI for the intranet and navigating the migration of existing content between CMS systems while technological relevance and efficiency.

Technology and Features

The intranet was built using best-practice, stable technologies that guarantee scalability, security, enterprise systems integration, and a seamless user experience, including: Adobe XD/Figma/Photoshop for design, SharePoint O365, React.js/Knockout.js middle-tier, custom Bootstrap/HTML/CSS/Javascript front-end, Vidyard Video Platform integration, Okta SSO login, Active Directory integration. Features include:

  • Custom UX/UI Design & Development: Tailored user experience and interface that resonate with the employees’ preferences and usage patterns.

  • Enhanced Integration Capabilities: Migrated the enterprise intranet to SharePoint O365, enhancing integration with other enterprise systems for increased user engagement.

  • Intranet Localization: Full 1-to-1 translation and localization of the English intranet into Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and Spanish. These four languages ensure native language intranet content for 70% of the company’s multi-national, global workforce.

The revamped corporate intranet has not only facilitated strategic growth but has also fostered a more connected and informed workplace. The enhancements have led to a more engaged user base, contributing to the overall productivity and cohesion of the enterprise. The project achieved a significant increase in user engagement, as evidenced by a +17% increase in page views, a +9% rise in average time spent on page, and a remarkable -23% reduction in bounce rate on a year-over-year basis. Additionally, moving the intranet to the company's SharePoint O365 tenet provided the organization with $180K savings annually in hosting and contract support costs.
